About Steven

Steven Bailey has made his living from his talents since he was a teenager. From the age of 14 he was teaching and workshopping actors in how to sing and speak, and from 16 he supported himself entirely through tutoring while he studied. He is a trained composer and a writer and director for theatre, and studied music and philosophy at the Australian National University on a Group of Eight Scholarship.

He later moved into a different arena: public opinion writing, journalism and politics. He was head writer for RiotACT and, from 2011, appeared regularly in traditional media, on radio and in print. In politics he has taken on many roles, from candidate to party administrator, campaign manager and policy developer. He has helped bring about legislative change, and has seen at close range how change happens and how it is communicated.

Steven has always traded on his talents, skills and experience. Rebel Advocate is the business embodiment of them, and of the talents of others. Steven seeks out talented young people to take on individual project work, such as writing biographies for people in palliative care, and invites them to share their skills under the Rebel Advocate banner. That is why Rebel Advocate can offer so many skill sets.

Then a medical emergency took his voice. It took ten months of disciplined training to move from a whisper back to speech, and his theatre training is what brought him back.

That experience is the heart of Rebel Advocate. Steven now brings writing, drafting, administration and voice teaching under one roof, so that people can be heard clearly when it matters most. Rebel Advocate is based in Victoria, Australia.
